Sunday 29th March saw the inaugral Ollie Marsden Memorial Shield contested on Borough Park between Totnes and Withycombe. Fine weather saw record crowds turn out to see some wonderful expansive rugby from both sides, providing a feast of tries and bags of entertainment for all those present. The final outcome was a win for the visitors with a score line of 27 points to 35.
The event which was organised to raise funds for C-R-Y, had supporters diiging deep into their pockets for both the charity buckets and a Grand Draw. Karen Smith from Totnes RFC went to the local shopkeepers for donations, and was amazed with the response, with over 50 donations forthcoming.
Master of ceremonies on the day John Massey, also held an impromtu auction for 5 major donations which alsomoved the total onwards. Following the match the bar was opened and again spectators and players alike from both Totnes and Withycombe enjoyed some fantastic hospitality, with 10% of the bar takings being added to the final total.
Some final counting is still to be done, but Totnes RFC Chairman Barrie Snell is confident that over £3000 was raised during the day towards the appeal.
